The work displays a stylistic execution and technical characteristics that link it to 17th-century Flemish art, while some compositional elements point to a certain Italianism, making it placeable within the Antwerp milieu of the first third of the 17th century. Many of its features are those of a great artist and are close to Van Dyck’s style, although the involvement of less skilled hands is evident, as could be the case with members of his workshop or close circle.
