This painting may be a second version of the one painted by Cornelis de Vos (ca. 1584 – 1651) and his brother-in-law Frans Snyders, in the Iveagh Bequest, Kenwood House, London, Figures with fruit and game. It is undoubtedly a work of great quality. Everything seems to indicate that it was Cornelis himself who painted the figures of the “Farmers on their way to the market”, probably together with another workshop artist of Frans Snyders. In any case, the meticulous realism of Cornelis de Vos’ style is beyond doubt.
