The particular burst of colours and the dissolution of form coexist in this magnificent work by Mir, in which he presents us with the Hermitage of Sant Medir, located in Sant Cugat del Vallès.
Our artist handles pastel with the greatest ease and thus achieves a fresh and attractive result. Thanks to this technique, Mir produced works and drawings of excellent chromatic and colourful strength which, even today, allow us to understand how the artist saw the colour of the landscape. The subject represented is very close to two works by Mir from his early period, which is why we consider the work under study to date from around 1897–1899.
This work was attributed by the CAEM team, with the collaboration of Dr Ma. Teresa Camps, an expert in the work of the artist Joaquim Mir.
