The artist, Sassoferrato, with the possible assistance of his extensive and specialized workshop, achieves precise work in this attractive Madonna or Virgin in Prayer, of great quality and refinement. Although numerous painters copied the devotional image of the Madonna Orante because of its importance as an icon in 17th-century Italian society, the technical-formal analyses justify its attribution. Sassoferrato, together with his broad and well-structured workshop, adopted a form of serial production that is characteristic of him, combined with an exquisite capacity for execution.
