Portrait of Pope Pius V

Atribuido a Federico Zuccari
Date: Last third of the 16th century (after 1566)
Dimensions: 96 x 72 cm
Materials: Oil on panel
This panel, preserved in a private collection in Barcelona, is attributed to the Italian school of the second half of the 16th century and, more specifically, to the circle of Federico Zuccari (1540/41–1609). In relation to its pictorial style, it fits well with his final years. Leaving aside the attribution issues, it is the work of an artist of great technical ability, well informed about the innovations of Roman painting in the second half of the 16th century.
